If the vehicle was last titled in Alabama

Alabama utilizes electronic titles. If your title is electronic, you will need to obtain a physical copy through the Public Title Portal prior to pickup.

The registered owner must complete the following steps:

  1. Download and fill out the Alabama Duplicate Title Application
  2. Submit the application
    1. Online through the Motor Vehicle Division
      1. Time frame: 13-20 business days
      2. Cost to obtain: $15
    2. In person at with a Designated Agent of the Department
      1. Time frame: 13-20 business days
      2. Cost to obtain: $16.50
    3. By mailing the application to:

      Montgomery, AL 36132-7640
      1. Time frame: 13-20 business days
      2. Cost to obtain: $15

If the vehicle was last titled outside of Alabama

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
