Instructions on obtaining a duplicate New Jersey (NJ) title

New Jersey utilizes electronic titles. If your title is electronic, you will need to obtain a physical copy prior to pickup.

If the vehicle was last titled in New Jersey

  1. Download and fill out the New Jersey Duplicate Title Application
  2. Submit the application
    1. In person at the Motor Vehicle Commission
      1. Time frame: Same day
      2. Cost to obtain: $60
    2. By mailing the application to:
      New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission
      225 East State Street
      MOS Special Services, PO Box 150
      Trenton, NJ 08666-0017
      1. Time frame: 8-12 weeks
      2. Cost to obtain: $60

If the vehicle was last titled outside of New Jersey

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
