South Dakota utilizes electronic titles. If your title is electronic, you will need to obtain a physical copy prior to pickup.

If the vehicle was last titled in South Dakota

  1. Download and fill out the South Dakota Duplicate Title Application
  2. Submit the application
    1. In person at the County Treasurer's Office
      1. Time frame: 3-4 months
      2. Cost to obtain: $10
    2. By mailing the application to:
      Motor Vehicle Division
      Duplicate Title Section
      445 E. Capitol Avenue
      Pierre, SD, 57501
      1. Time frame: 3-4 months

If the vehicle was last titled outside of South Dakota

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
