How do I get a duplicate title in Texas?

Instructions on obtaining a duplicate Texas (TX) title

Texas utilizes electronic titles. If your title is electronic, you will need to obtain a physical copy prior to pickup.

If the vehicle was last titled in Texas

  1. Download and fill out the Texas Duplicate Title Application
  2. Submit the application
    1. In person at the Vehicle Titles and Registration Regional Offices
      1. Time frame to get the title: Same day
      2. Cost to obtain: $5.45
    2. By mailing the application to:
      Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
      1601 Southwest Parkway, Suite A
      Wichita Falls, TX 76302
      1. Time frame to get the title: at least 15 days
      2. Cost to obtain: $2

If the vehicle was last titled outside of Texas

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
