California utilizes electronic titles. If your title is electronic, you will need to obtain a physical copy prior to pickup.

If the vehicle was last titled in California

  1. Download and fill out the California Duplicate Title Application REG 227 form
  2. Submit the application
    1. Online
      1. Time frame: 2-4 weeks
      2. Cost to obtain: $28 (Rush Processing available for an additional $15)
    2. In person at the Department of Motor Vehicles
      1. Time frame: 2-4 weeks
      2. Cost to obtain: $28 (Rush Processing available for an additional $15)
    3. By mailing the application to:

If the vehicle was last titled outside of California

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
